Dundas Station is now TMU Station after 71 years. Here's everything Toronto commuters need to know about the TTC rename happening December 7, 2025.

After 71 years, Dundas Station on the TTC's Line 1 is getting a new name. Starting December 7, 2025, the station will officially be known as TMU Station, named after nearby Toronto Metropolitan University.

It's not the only change happening this weekend. Eglinton West Station is also being renamed to Cedarvale Station, and Line 6 Finch West is opening to the public.

Why Was Dundas Station Renamed?

The station was named after Dundas Street, which honours Henry Dundas, a Scottish politician. Dundas has been criticized for delaying the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade in the late 1700s.

This is part of a broader renaming effort in Toronto. In 2023, Yonge-Dundas Square was renamed to Sankofa Square for the same reason.

The TMU Partnership

The rename comes from a partnership between the TTC and Toronto Metropolitan University. As part of the deal:

  • TMU is paying the entire .7 million cost of the rename
  • No taxpayer money is being used
  • TMU and TTC are creating a "Transit Innovation Yard" - a research hub to develop transit solutions

The partnership will explore route optimization, real-time service updates, and improved journey-planning tools.
